Gang War: New Zealand Style
What’s the top story in New Zealand lately? It happens to be a gang war in the country’s most southern city, Invercargill. A city I had imagined as virtually desolate, but what do I know. Not shit. Anyways, its not the kind of gang warfare we as Americans are used to. The usual Bloods versus Crips is not present here in the land of kiwis, instead it’s the war between two motorcycle gangs. It is the Road Knights against the Mongrel Mob. It seems that the Road Knights’ headquarters was burned to the ground along with a lot of their motorcycles. The Knights blame the Mongrel Mob for this blatant attack and want revenge. The Road Knights, who are openly gay and racist, insist that the streets of Invercargill will run red with Mongrel Mob blood. Apparently the Road Knights were involved in gang warfare during the ‘80s and claim Invercargill as their home turf. It looks like the Mongrel Mob had better watch their backs. I would if there were a gang of motorcycle riding, racist gays after me. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you informed of any New Zealand gang war updates! Maybe I’ll even take a short weekend trip down to Invercargill for a frontline update. My new impression of this city I have never been to? Pretty much the same uninformed guess that I outlined above. Only now the city is run by white supremacist homosexuals on motorcycles, dressed in tight constricting leather. So far all my preconceived notions of Kiwis have been 100% correct so I’m expecting this won’t be too far from the truth.

It's oh so true but don't get to excited i think the magority of the guys that live in this shit hole have sucked one or two in their time.

ReplyDeleteThe Mongrel Mob's bases span most of the North Island. Their attempt to branch to the South Island was foiled though, apparently MM were chased out of Road Knight turf.
Don't underestimate the power of the Mongrel Mob. They are the biggest gang in Aotearoa. A lot of people call their business "Organized crime", but they are at the very least - barely organized. The only order it seems in the Mighty Mongrel Mob is completely the order of themselves. No pecking order, and constantly, a member of the Mob will have wars with other members over drugs.
Methamphetamine is the biggest money-maker for gangs (besides dodgy business deals, which I'm guessing happen a lot more than we are informed about, as with anywhere else)
Methamphetamine alone has broken, ironically, morals and honour, in the Mob and probably others. The drug makes people lose it.
If they had a bit more organization, they would already have taken over Aotearoa by now. But don't get me wrong, they run most of NZ.
Great story by the way. I'm a bit offended that you think NZers reinforced your belief that "kiwis" are gay motorbike riders. Probably on the contrary, NZ is probably one of the most violent places on the planet.
I challenge anyone, your MMA fighters, your boxers, your fighters who claim to be the hardest basteds on the planet - to go for a drink at a pub in South Auckland. Your entire perception of a bad-ass mothafarker will change right away, it doesn't matter who you are.
It's not so violent that you are guaranteed to get smashed just walking down the street. But you've got to be ready to handle yourself because it does happen. Pretty nice place besides that.
